Details

Product Name: Zoton (Prevacid)
Drug Name: Lansoprazole

Packaging Type: Packets of 30 x 30 mg Capsules

Manufacturer: Abbott Laboratories

Use: Zoton and Prevacid are the same. This product is used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, and heal the damage done. Zoton(Prevacid) reduces acid by blocking your stomach's acid-producing mechanism. Even though this mechanism is constantly being renewed, and producing new acid, taking Zoton (Prevacid) actually reduces your stomach acid for up to 24 hours. If you take Zoton/Prevacid regularly, not just when the symptoms are bothering you, then your body can start to heal.

How to take it: Your doctor will determine which dosage is right for you. Your doctor will tell you exactly how much Zoton/Prevacid to take, and how often to take it.

Side effects: These events, which are generally transient and self-limiting, include headache, fatigue, malaise, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, constipation, flatulence, dry or sore mouth or throat, rash, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, arthralgia and myalgia. Dermatological reactions include urticaria and pruritus. These generally resolve on discontinuation of drug therapy. Cases of hair thinning and photosensitivity have also been reported. Other reported reactions include jaundice, hepatitis, interstitial nephritis (sometimes resulting in renal failure), wheezing, bruising, depression, blurred vision, taste disturbances, vertigo, confusion and hallucinations. Gynaecomastia and impotence may occur with long term use. During clinical trials a small number of patients developed abnormal liver function tests (predominantly gamma-GT) while on lansoprazole, however, routine monitoring of liver function tests is not required.

Precautions: Inform your doctor of your medical history, including all allergies, especially drug allergies. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, high blood pressure or have difficulty swallowing. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. Tell your doctor all prescription medications you are currently taking, including those available without a prescription. It is especially important that you tell your doctor if you are taking other medications that require stomach acids to work. These include cilostazol, diazepam, digoxin, iron, itraconazole, ketoconazole, sucralfate, or vitamins with iron.
