Use: Prosmin is the generic equivalent of Proscar. Prosmin is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia in men. This is where the prostate is enlarged and causes problems with urinating. The prostate is gradually reduced from its enlarged state, bringing relief to the patient. As Finasteride is well used in the treatment of Male Pattern Hairloss in the form of Propecia, Prosmin may be used by cost conscious consumers and the pills cut into 1 mg dosages.
How to take it: Take this medicine at the same time each day. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. This medicine may be crushed if difficult to swallow.
Side effects: Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include a change in sexual function or breast enlargement. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following side effects or symptoms of toxicity: skin rash or swelling of lips.

Women should not handle crushed or broken Prosmin tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant because of the possibility of absorption of finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male fetus. Finasteride tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets have not been broken or crushed.
