Use: Norvasc is a type of medicine called a long-acting calcium channel blocker (CCB). Norvasc is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) It is also used to treat a type of chest pain called angina. Angina is often a pain or pressure in your chest that keeps coming back when part of your heart does not get enough blood.
How to take it: In general, Norvasc is taken once a day, with or without food. You can take Norvasc with most drinks, including grapefruit juice. It may be easier to take your dose if you do it at the same time every day. For example, take it with breakfast, dinner, or at bedtime.
Side effects: Some people have side effects. The most common ones are swelling in the feet or ankles, headache, feeling tired, or feeling dizzy. You should tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects.
Precautions: Women should not breast-feed while taking Norvasc. It is not known if Norvasc will pass through breast milk. You also should not start any new drugs or supplements, unless you check with your healthcare provider first. This means drugs that are prescribed and those you buy off the shelf.
