It contains the same active ingredient as Propecia but at much less cost. It works by inhibiting an enzyme that changes testosterone into dihydrotestosterone or DHT. The increase levels of DHT are believed to contribute to hairloss in men. Finast is also used to treat the condition known as benign prostate hyperplasia or BPH. BPH is a condition that occurs in older men (65 years +) and results in an enlarged prostate gland. Studies have suggested that untreated BPH may lead to prostate cancer.
