Details

Product Name: Cipflox (Ciproxin)
Drug Name: Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride

Packaging Type: Packets of 28 x 500 mg Tablets

Manufacturer: Pacific Pharmaceuticals

Use: This medication is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used for treatment of infections in HIV+ individuals, and also as a preventative in case of exposure to the Anthrax bacteria.

How to take it: Pills are taken on an empty stomach 2 hours after meals, 250-750 mg every 12 hours. If there is stomach irritation, the pill can be taken with meals. Food slows and may slightly decrease absorption. If you are taking antacids, you should take them at least 2 hours before or after the Cipflox.

Side effects: Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are the most frequent side effects of ciprofloxacin. Bad taste in the mouth, restlessness, rash, sensitivity to sunlight and seizures are other possible side effects.

Precautions: Do not take the following drugs within 2 hours of taking Cipflox; antacids such as Maalox or Mylanta, vitamins, iron supplements, zinc supplements, or sucralfate (Carafate). You may take them 2 hours after or 6 hours before Cipflox. Also, make sure your doctor knows if you are taking asthma medicine like theophylline, gout medicine like probenecid (Benemid), or a blood thinner such as Coumadin. Avoid drinking more than one or two caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, soft drinks) per day. Avoid taking this medicine with foods containing large amounts of calcium, like milk, yogurt, or cheese. If you have epilepsy or kidney disease, or if you are pregnant, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, notify your doctor before you start taking this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone medicines such as norfloxacin (Noroxin), ofloxacin (Floxin) or nalidixic acid (NegGram). This medicine may make you dizzy or lightheaded. Avoid driving or using machinery until you know how it will affect you
