Product Name: Befar
Drug Name: Alprostadil
Packaging Type: 250 mg Applicator Tube
Manufacturer: Nexmed Pharmaceutical
Use: Befar is a product used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It works by widening the blood vessels in the penis, allowing it to be engorged with blood. Befar has been used for several years worldwide, and was formerly administered via injection directly into the penis.
How to apply it: Apply the cream as directed by your doctor approximately 10-15 minutes prior to attempting intercourse. Each applicator holds approximately 2 dosages. Grasp the glans penis (tip of the penis) and gently open the orifice (opening) of the urethra. If you are not circumcised, first retract the foreskin and hold the foreskin back prior to opening the orifice of the urethra. Apply the cream, at the dosage directed by your doctor, into the orifice of the urethra. Hold the penis in an upright position for approximately 30 seconds to allow the cream disappearing into the orifice. The cream does not need to be completely absorbed to be effective.
Side effects: In clinical trials, the most common side effects were urinary tract pain, burning, penile fullness, and redness at the application site. These side effects were not enough for patients to stop using Befar.
Precautions: Use Befar with caution if you have pre-existing diseases such as cardiac infarction or orthostatic hypotension. Use a condom barrier for sexual intercourse with pregnant or lactating woman or for oral sex (fellatio). Befar offers no protection for sexually transmitted diseases, and has no contraceptive capabilities. Use contraception and protection at all times.
